19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid period, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Success also means he has secured 21 championships at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
