A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the police a second time.

She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
